Can you install herringbone tile patterns?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Herringbone is one of our most requested patterns and we have laid it in dozens of Sussex kitchens, hallways and bathrooms. We dry-lay the entire pattern before any adhesive goes down to confirm the layout. The 45-degree border cuts are what separate a professional herringbone from an amateur attempt.

Do you do outdoor patio and pathway tiling?

Yes. We lay all types of outdoor tiles including large format porcelain patio slabs, natural stone, Victorian front path tiles and garden pathways. All outdoor work uses frost-proof adhesive and jointing, and we build in correct drainage falls to every outdoor surface.

Do you tile swimming pools?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Swimming pool tiling is a specialist service we provide. We tile the full shell in glass mosaic, vitrified ceramic or specialist pool tile, apply the waterproofing membrane, install coping tiles and pool surrounds. Full scope from substrate to final grout.

What is the largest tile size you can install?

We regularly install 1200x2400mm porcelain slab tiles, which are among the largest tiles in commercial use. Large format installation requires specialist handling equipment, a perfectly flat substrate and a full-bed adhesive technique. We have the experience and equipment to do it properly.

Can you supply tiles as well as install them?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can source and supply tiles if you prefer, or work from tiles you have purchased yourself. If you supply your own tiles, we check quantities and advise on wastage before any cutting starts. We are happy either way.

What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles?

Accepted Answer

Ceramic tiles are made from clay fired at a lower temperature than porcelain. They are slightly more porous and softer, making them easier to cut and suitable for walls and lighter floor use. Porcelain is fired at a higher temperature, resulting in a denser, harder and more water-resistant tile suitable for floors, wet rooms, outdoor use and high-traffic areas.

Can you match existing tiles for a repair?

We always try. If your tiles are still in production, we can source matching ones easily. If they are discontinued, we search our supplier network for the closest available match. Sometimes an exact match is not possible, in which case we advise on options including a complementary tile that makes the repair look intentional rather than patched.

Do you work on Victorian period properties?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and we do a great deal of it. The Victorian and Edwardian housing stock across Sussex, particularly in Brighton, Hove, Lewes and the coastal towns, is full of original encaustic and geometric tiles that need sympathetic restoration or careful reproduction. We have 25 years of working in period properties and we understand the materials, the patterns and the correct installation approach.
